Attendance and Family Engagement

The GIRESD Department of Education Innovation & Technology aspires to take a data-driven, comprehensive approach in addressing chronic absenteeism. That begins with engaging students and families as well as preventing absences from adding up before they fall behind academically. The collaboration of our community, schools, courts and other agencies is essential if we are to increase school attendance.

In order to systematically decrease chronic absenteeism in our schools, the office of Attendance & Family Engagement and our local districts are dedicated to taking a tiered approach. Truancy has focused on unexcused absences and relies heavily on court involvement versus Chronic Absenteeism which focuses on both excused and unexcused absences and the impact that has on academic performance by using a community-based, preventive approach. It is our goal to help provide supports and resources so your child can be in school every day. If you are struggling to get your child to school on a daily basis, please let your child's school or our office know so we can start to collaborate and assist in any way possible.
